Although Australia is the world's largest producer of bauxite and a substantial producer of alumina, the country ranks fifth in global aluminium output, with China the leading producer. Australia will produce a projected 1.6 million tonnes of aluminium in 2016-17, down from 1.9 million tonnes in 2011-12. Primary aluminium ingots and products

Aluminium smelters mainly produce primary aluminium, which excludes alloys and recycled aluminium, and is an undifferentiated commodity.
