Overview

The State Fire Commission operates the Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS), a state government body that provides protection from fire and other emergencies to the residents of Tasmania. The State Fire Commission consists of over 230 brigades and employs approximately 480 people and has around 5,000 volunteers. The Commission's head office is located at the corner of Argyle and Melville streets in Hobart, Tasmania.

Tasmanian Fire Service (TFS) responds to fires and other emergencies, as well as assisting local communities with advice and support on a range of fire-related matters. Through TasFire Equipment, TFS is able to provide the sale, maintenance and servicing of both commercial and residential fire protection equipment. Additionally, with TasFire Training, TFS offers a range of training services to volunteer and career firefighters.

 

The TFS emergency capabilities also include the ability to respond to structural fires and bushfires, as well as:

  • Hazardous Material Incidents
  • Chemical, Biological and Radiological incidents
  • Urban Search and Rescue
  • High Angle Rescue Teams
