Overview

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (SAMFS) is a South Australian Government controlled community safety organisation, engaged in the provision of protection services from fire and other emergencies. The organisation operates in South Australia and is administered by its head office in Adelaide.

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service provides protection from fire and other emergencies in the South Australian region through the operation of 16 regional and 21 metropolitan fire stations.

Emergencies responded to by the SAMFS alongside fire-related incidents include, but are not limited to:

  • Road accidents
  • Urban search and high angle rescue
  • Chemical, biological and hazardous materials emergencies

The SAMFS also operates a number of services and facilities to raise awareness of emergencies, and to encourage safe practices, including:

  • Angle Park Training Centre - Training facility used by emergency services to practice incident response
  • Community Safety and Resilience Department - Engaged in providing the public with an awareness of safety through community education programs, provision of expert reviews of building fire safety, fire investigation and media awareness
  • Special Operations Department - Engaged in the maintenance, training, education and advisory services of hazmat and chemical biological radiological and nuclear (CBRN) risks, and emergency response activities in case of incidences.
