Phil Ruthven

Phil founded IBIS Corporate Services, as it was then known, in 1971. Today IBISWorld is an international corporation and global leader in online industry information.

Phil’s reputation in Australia’s business community is held in the highest regard. He continues to be one of Australia’s most frequent and prolific commentators and is widely considered the nation’s most respected strategist and futurist on business, social and economic matters. Requested by many major organisations to be a guest speaker, Phil travels Australia and the world, addresses about 20-30 congresses, seminars and conferences each year, (down from his peak of 100-150) and has done so for five decades. As well as being a published author, Phil contributes regularly to radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and documentaries on business, economic and social issues.

Phil is a science graduate with further studies in management and economics at various universities and institutes and was a Rotary awardee to the United States in the late 1960s. He spent over 10 years in the food industry, including executive positions in research, production and marketing, before establishing IBIS in Melbourne, Australia.

Phil is currently Chairman of his newly-formed, Ruthven Institute. He is also Adjunct Professor at UTS, and a member of the ANU College of Business & Economics Advisory Board. He is a recent past board member of the Melbourne Institute, CEDA and a past Director of Open Family Australia where he continues to help as an Ambassador for Whitelion/Open Family. In 2014, Phil became a Member of the Order of Australia, in recognition of his significant service to business and the community.

Justin’s career began at Coles Myer head office across Research and Systems roles. Following that, Justin joined IBISWorld in 1988, holding positions in most aspects of the IBISWorld business, including Research, Sales, Client Services, Retail and Product Development.

In 2001, Justin was promoted to CEO of IBISWorld as well as being appointed to the Board of Directors. With that, he embarked on an expansion program that included establishing IBISWorld in the United States, including moving there with his family in 2006. By launching additional products and setting-up new companies under the IBISWorld banner, Justin oversaw double-digit growth for 15-years to cement IBISWorld’s position as the market leader in industry information. Today, IBISWorld and its subsidiaries is now one of the world’s largest online business information companies.

Justin is IBISWorld’s longest-serving CEO so following a decade-and-a-half in the role, Justin moved into the Executive Chairman position; remaining actively involved with group operations across the IBISWorld companies. With a lot less global travel, he happily resides in Australia with his wife and adult children.

Geoff Wild

Geoff has obtained a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience across the corporate sector. He worked for the Clemenger Group for almost 30 years in Australia and founded the Agency’s Sydney operation.

Geoff is chairman of WPP Holdings (Australia) Pty Ltd and its related entities. He is also chairman of ComOps Limited and Arab Bank Australia Limited. He is also a director of Ooh!media Ltd and Catuity Inc.

He is formerly a director of TAB Limited, OPSM Group and PGA (Professional Golf Association) of Australia. He was a vice president and director of the successful Sydney Olympic Bid Company Limited and chairman of the NSW Tourism Commission. Geoff is also a former member of the BBDO Worldwide Board and Chairman of BBDO Asia Pacific. In the 2000 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, Geoff was made a member of the Order of Australia.

Dr Roger Sexton

Roger is a leading investment banker and company director with extensive professional experience in the Asia Pacific region. Roger has served as a Chief Executive of a number of large organisations in the finance, funds management and investment banking industries.

After spending the first 14 years of his working career in high level public service roles for both the South Australian State Government and the Commonwealth Government, Roger transferred his focus to the private sector. In 1985 he was Executive Director at Morgan Grenfell Australia Limited and then Beneficial Finance Corporation before founding the Beston Pacific Group in 1992. He is a former chairman of the Motor Accident Commission and former chairman of the Asset Management Task Force for South Australia He has been; deputy chairman of IOOF Holdings Limited; and deputy chairman of Korvest Limited.

Roger established the Beston Pacific Group as a boutique investment bank focusing on corporate advisory and structured finance transactions in the Asia Pacific region. Roger was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

Bernadette Walker

Bernadette joined IBISWorld in 1989 and has held numerous specialised and management positions within the Finance department.

Partnering closely with the Chief Financial Officer and the Corporate Finance team, Bernadette manages a broad range of internal stakeholders; primarily supporting both the global executive team and the Board of Directors. As Financial Controller, Bernadette draws from her extensive experience with high-level financial reporting, global budget consolidation and cash flow management across the international network of IBISWorld offices and Ruthven-related companies.

In 2016, she was appointed to the Board of Directors. Bernadette is a graduate of RMIT University in Melbourne, with a Bachelor of Business degree in Accountancy.

Kerryn Ruthven

Kerryn joined IBISWorld in a Sales role in December 2000. He has held numerous leadership positions in the company, including a 5-year stint in the United States as Vice President and Senior Vice President of Sales from 2005-2010.

From 2011-2013, he had a Global Corporate Development role across both Sales and Client Services. With IBISWorld’s international expansion program and with Kerryn’s experience in large-scale Sales operations, he moved into the role of Global Head of Sales from 2013 to 2017.

As of early 2017, his focus is less operational; serving as a Director of IBISWorld and related companies.

Karen joined IBISWorld’s Melbourne office in 2003 in a Client Services position. Over the following two-years, she took on further responsibilities, supporting IBISWorld’s US expansion program.

From 2005, Karen was promoted to various senior management roles including a stint as Production Manager then General Manager of IBISWorld Australia. As IBISWorld continued branching into other countries, Karen’s leadership experience led to more international roles. From 2009-2016, her responsibilities included roles as Global Head of IT, Global Head of HR and Global Head of Client Services.

Following those positions, Karen spent 12-months as Chief Operating Officer from mid-2016-mid 2017 and was then promoted to the role of Chief Executive Officer. In 2017, Karen was also appointed to the Board of Directors of IBISWorld.

Jason Baker

Jason joined IBISWorld in 1992 as a Company Research Analyst. He was soon appointed to management roles overseeing various aspects of Production and other management responsibilities.

From 2004 to 2007 he was the General Manager of the Australian operation. Jason was then posted to the United States to become the Chief Operating Officer of that business from 2007-2011; where he was instrumental with the success of the US operations. Returning to Australia in 2011, Jason became the Chief Information Officer across the IBISWorld global group. Then in 2014, Jason was again posted to the United States, now promoted as the Chief Executive Officer of IBISWorld; he was there a further two-years, finishing the remaining year of that role back in Melbourne.

Jason now serves as Group Chief Financial Officer of IBISWorld and Ruthven-related companies as well as his appointment to the Board of Directors of IBISWorld in 2017.
