Weak export market demand, an appreciating dollar and constraints on livestock supply are producing trying times for the Meat Processing industry. Despite this, the industry is forecast to produce over 3,100 kilotonnes of meat in 2012-13. Domestic consumption of red meat remained fairly stable over the past five years, increasing the importance of export markets for industry growth.
