Industry Analysis & Industry Trends
There are over 33,000 kilometres of high-pressure steel pipelines in Australia, most of which (over 25,000 kilometres) transport natural gas. The Pipeline Transport industry is expected to generate revenue of $1.91 billion in 2012-13, compared with $1.48 billion in 2007-08. This equates to annualised growth of 5.2%. Increases in volumes hauled (mainly of natural gas) have been partly offset by lower haulage rates. Industry revenue is expected to increase by 5.5% in 2012-13, reflecting rising demand for natural gas, consequent increases in volumes transported and pipeline expansions. The industry is expected to generate about 0.1% of Australia's GDP in 2012-13 and its net profit before interest and tax is estimated at $640.1 million... purchase to read more
Industry Report - Industry Locations Chapter

Most of the gas transmitted to New South Wales originates in fields in South Australia, although some is also transported by pipeline from Victoria. In Western Australia, gas is transported from the north of the state to major markets in the south. Victoria also accounts for a substantial share of the industry's establishments; gas is transmitted from offshore gas fields to Melbourne, regional centres in Victoria and Tasmania... purchase to read more
