Industry Analysis & Industry Trends
The industry manufactures a disparate range of products used principally for construction purposes. This includes the production of dimension stone for internal cladding, flooring, pavers and benchtops (e.g. marble and granite), glasswool insulation products, and abrasive products.
During the late 2000s, the industry was a principal beneficiary of the Federal Government's Energy Efficient Homes (EEH) program, which subsidised the installation of ceiling insulation into existing dwellings through the Home Insulation Program (HIP). Insulation material production peaked in late 2009 and slumped with the abrupt cessation of the HIP scheme in early 2010, which resulted in product oversupply and widespread redundancies.
