Olive trees also require moist soil, so growing is confined to areas with access to irrigation. Victoria accounts for the highest portion of olives growers, followed by Western Australia and South Australia. Victoria is home to the industry's only major player, Boundary Bend Limited. The location of industry players has changed minimally over the past decade. This is due to the long life-span of olive trees, with some trees around the world known to be 1,000 years old. Furthermore, olive trees can be neglected for many years, then re-nourished and brought back into production.
