The Caravan and Motorhome Rental industry has steadily grown over the past five years. Australia's ageing population has been a boon to the industry, as there has been a growing number of retirees embarking on travel around Australia in caravans and motorhomes. While many of these retirees will purchase recreational vehicles (RVs) outright, the industry does benefit from retirees renting or leasing vehicles to take on shorter holidays. Caravan and motorhome rental demand is mainly driven by two demographics: retirees and young families. New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland dominate the distribution of people in these age groups. This is consistent with the geographical spread of dealers within the industry. The relatively large number of dealers located in New South Wales and Victoria is due to a high concentration of caravan and trailer manufacturing in these states. However, the mining boom in Western Australia has increased the importance of the state within the industry, and is estimated to represent the fastest rate of growth compared with all other states.
