Port of Tauranga Limited controls the country's largest export port. Forestry, kiwifruit and dairy make up 80% of exports out of the port, with Asia being the primary destination. Services offered at the port include a range of facilities, and pilot and towage services.

The following facilities are located at the Port of Tauranga:

  • Mount Maunganui Wharf - 2,055m of berth face, 20,000 tonne capacity coldstore, 22 wharf bunker points. 90ha of back-up land is available for cargo storage.
  • Tanker Berth - 80m in length allowing ships of up to 250m in length. Dedicated to the transfer of dangerous goods in bulk.
  • Sulphur Point - A heavy duty wharf, 600m in length with 5 cranes. Includes 22,000m2 covered storage and 9,000 tonne coldstore. The Tauranga Container Terminal is located at Sulphur Point, operating 18 straddle carriers and offering ship planning, operations, marshalling, on-board stevedoring and reefer services.

The company also owns MetroPort, a cargo destination for imports into the Auckland region, located in central Auckland. Road and rail access is available for cargo movement in and out of storage all facilities.

Pilot and towage services are also provided at the port. The company owns three purpose-built tugs and two pilot launches. Port of Tauranga also provides arrival and departure pilotage services for larger vessels.
